The evening
Our Chamber concert series at Hallé St Peter’s is a unique opportunity to get up close to the music and enjoy smaller groups of musicians performing incredible music in a more intimate setting.
The Hallé’s Principal Guest Conductor, Thomas Adès, has curated an innovative programme featuring many different sizes and shapes of ensemble.
Soprano Anna Dennis will perform Stravinsky’s elegant short song cycle Three Songs from William Shakespeare and Ravel’s Chansons madécasses, one of the composer’s most sensuous and exotic works. Adès’ own atmospheric concert suite, drawn from his 2004 opera The Tempest, captures the magical and stormy elements of Shakespeare’s play whilst de Falla’s Harpsichord Concerto is full of sharp textures and subtle Spanish colour.
Two pieces for clarinet and piano showcase the virtuosity of Matthew Hunt (Principal Clarinet, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen) who joins us for Gerald Barry’s rhythmic Low and Berg’s constantly evolving Vier Stücke.
