A rousing fanfare – Shostakovich’s flashy and exciting Festive Overture, alongside Haydn’s landmark Trumpet Concerto, performed by Royal Philharmonic Society Award winner Matilda Lloyd.

There are vibrant folk melodies in Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, menacing ballet music in Prokofiev’s ‘Montagues and Capulets’ from Romeo and Juliet and a joyous rhapsody for orchestra and violin in The Lark Ascending, where the sound of the soloist rises like a bird in flight.
